Vortex-xt

The Vortex-xt is a motorised closure torque tester controlled by software running on a touch-screen console. Rated up to 10 N.m (90 lbf.in) it is accurate, easy-to-use and ideal for standalone use.

As an automated torque tester it eliminates the variability associated with manual test methods, making it the perfect solution for routine testing of a wide range of caps and closures.

The Tornado digital torque tester is ideally suited for basic testing of the application and removal torque on caps and closures.

Manually-operated, the Tornado range has 4 models with capacities ranging from 1.5 - 10 N.m to cover almost all closures types and sizes.

Its ability to detect the initial peak torque and subsequent bridge-break torque make it the instrument of choice for testing closures with tamper-evident seals.

Overview

Mecmesin torque testers are the accepted testing solution in industries as diverse as food and drink, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and automotive.

Automated torque testers

The Vortex-i and Vortex-xt automated torque testers have been helping professionals around the world to objectively assess the quality of their components and assembled products for more than 20 years.

They are ideally suited to a packaging manufacturer wishing to assess the bridge torque of a tamper-evident closure right through to an automotive controls designer looking to perfect the ‘feel’ of a rotary switch.

The Vortex-i and Vortex-xt feature a sturdy, twin-column, motorised test frame which is designed to apply torque up to a capacity of 10 N.m.

Specimens up to 440mm tall and 280mm wide can easily be tested in both clockwise and counter-clockwise directions.

It requires a PC or touchscreen console to run its software and has a small footprint making it the ideal choice as a bench-top device.

Manual torque testers

The Tornado cap torque tester is ideally suited to a wide range of screw-type closures and other components where application and removal torque need to be measured accurately.

A configurable first-peak function, coupled with the standard maximum reading, ensures that both the initial slip torque and also the bridge torque are captured. This is of particular interest when measuring the performance of tamper-evident closures (e.g. ROPP) where a maximum reading alone is insufficient to determine both characteristics.

An onboard memory of up to 500 results is also available for mass storage when batch testing and can be downloaded later to a printer or PC.

Mecmesin | Torque testing

Features

Torque testing is a way of determining how an object will react when it is being turned - during normal operation or being twisted until it deliberately fails or breaks.

This rotational force can be 'dynamic' often delivered at ultra-high speed or 'static' at a much lower speed.

Mecmesin specialises in solutions for ‘static’ torque measurement.

Static torque measurement is increasingly used by manufacturers as a quality-control method to comply with industry standards. It ensures the proper functioning of components and serves to record their safety and fitness for purpose.

It can even help to determine the root cause of a wide variety of defects, which can then be addressed in the production process to reduce costs and improve yields.
